We are facing worldwide climate change, a situation which calls for an effective low-carbon policy and efficient energy technologies. The European Union (EU) is tackling the challenge through a policy whose target is nothing less than the transformation of the entire energy system, with far-reaching implications on how we source and produce our energy, how we transport and trade it, and how we use it. In short, we must make low-carbon technologies affordable and competitive – a market choice. This is the core idea behind the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan).
